 Vodafone to Launch 3G Services in India by next month Vodafone Essar, India leading telecom operator, has announced that its 3G services will be rolled out by the end of this fiscal year. Vodafone announced this just after the 3G roll out of Aircel. The company has confirmed that 3G roll out will be on a city-wise basis and not state-wise.

“We have a 3G-ready network, currently in optimisation which we will be launching very quickly,” said, Vodafone Essar Director, Naveen Chopra.

Presently, trials are on and the service is expected to be launched in a phased manner by March. The firm has the capability of servicing enterprise customers for fixed line, Mr. Chopra said, adding “we have over 95,000 km of optical fiber and a 3G-ready network.” (more…)

Vodafone becomes first private telecom to make 3G video callAfter Tata Docomo, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communication, Vodafone Essar has launched a dedicated site for it’s upcoming 3G services. This webpage will provide information about what 3G technology is and what it can do.

This website also address subscribers queries and has a separate section which will handle new subscribers registration. The new subscriber will get service details about 3G, it also features FAQs, which is related to 3G. There is also a facility, that enables mobile phone user to check whether their handset is 3G compatible or not. A total of 173 handset brands are listed on the site but surprisingly, the name of few big Indian Handset manufacturers such Micromax, Lemon Mobile and Lava models are missing. (more…)

Vodafone becomes first private telecom to make 3G video callVodafone Essar Ltd., India’s second largest telecom service provider, today demonstrated its 3G services for its customers in India. Marten Pieters, Managing Director of Vodafone Essar Ltd., made the first 3G video call from Mumbai to Delhi.  Vodafone Essar is the first private telecom company in the country to showcase a  3G video call. Recently Tata Docomo an Airtel announced to launch their 3G services in coming month but Vodafone Essar will launch 3G services in the first quarter of 2011.

Vodafone acquired 3G spectrum in 10 circles – Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (E) and West Bengal and is exploring opportunities to tie up with other operators to provide high quality 3G services in other circles as well.  (more…)

Vodafone selects Nokia Siemens Networks for 3G servicesVodafone Essar has announced that Nokia Siemens Networks and Ericsson India as its partners for its 3G network across India. The partnership will enable Vodafone to roll out its 3G services seamlessly in nine of its licensed circles. These circles — Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (East) and West Bengal — covering over 60 per cent of the company’s current customer base. Vodafone will utilise the latest HSPA technology to deliver new services like video telephony, mobile broadband, mobile TV and others.

“Globally, Vodafone already provides enhanced 3G services to a large number of customers. Now India is ready for 3G, and we are committed to bringing these benefits to our Indian subscribers,” said Marten Pieters, managing director, Vodafone Essar. “Nokia Siemens Networks is the 3G leader and we view our relationship as a strategic alliance built around delivering and maintaining the high-quality service which Vodafone customers expect.” (more…)
