Industry experts voted uninor as India’s Most Promising New Operator

Uninor India a joint venture company of India’s real estate major Unitech Ltd. and the Norway based Telenor Group has been recognized as the Most Promising New Operator in the Telecom Operator Award 2010 organised by “tele.net” , a leading Indian telecom sector publication. The selection was based on a survey conducted by the publication with over 160 industry experts and professionals where Uninor emerged as winner by a strong margin.
The recognition comes within months of Uninor’s service launch in 8 telecom circles in India. The company has already made a strong start to its operations, securing an average of 1 million subscribers per month. By the end of February, Uninor had secured over 3.5 million subscribers across its operational regions.
Accepting the award, Uninor’s Managing Director Stein-Erik Vellan said, “We are on our way; with a set of ideas, our way of doing business and most importantly, a philosophy that puts people first. Unitech Wireless, joint venture company of real estate major Unitech Ltd. and the Norway based world’s 6th largest mobile services provider Telenor Group has ramps up its retailing & brand building initiative in semi- urban & rural markets of eastern UP by flagging off 16 cars at the Uninor Lucknow hub here on Thursday. The retail mobile initiative was adopted with the vision of assisting Uninor to reach out to its customers in even the remotest corners of UP East.
With the mobile handset population poised to top 500 million in India by 2010, it has become a huge and vibrant communication platform, which no telecom marketer can afford to ignore. Uninor a Joint Venture between Norway’s Telenor and India’s Unitech Wireless has announced that it will not bid for 3G spectrum. Speaking to press Uninor official Revealed that we cannot participate in these auctions when we haven’t even received the 2G spectrum that we have already paid for
Furthermore, our current focus is on strengthening our service in circles we are present in and launching additional circles this year. We would like to concentrate our focus and our resources in an area that is by far the mainstay in India – good quality voice service.
