China Telecom aims to get 35 million 3G users by 2011

China Telecom Corporation is expecting to get a boost in its 3G users by end of 2011, out of which 10 million could be 3G smart phone users, Wang Xiaochu, chairman and chief executive officer of the company, said on Tuesday.

Total no. of China Telecom subscribers reached 93 million by the end of 2010, which is 34 million increase from 2009. The company did not reveal the exact number of current 3G users, but industry analysts said the figure probably surpassed 11 million by the end of last year
“We expect China Telecom will have more than 100 million subscribers by the first quarter of this year. The number of newly added mobile phone users will surpass that of 2010,” Wang said at a industry conference in Beijing. (more…)
China plans to invest USD 18 billion 3G services in 2010
0China, World’s Biggest Telecom Market now plans to invest about USD 18 billion in 3G data services in 2010 as the country became the home to the largest telephone network in the world, with total number of phone users crossing 1.1 billion, including 800 million mobile users. The 3G services allow for video calls between 3G subscribers, and television and Internet access. It would allow users to make telephone calls, surf the Internet and watch television through a singe cable or wireless entrance.
China’s third-generation (3G) mobile phone service subscribers went up by 40 per cent, totaling 25.2 million subscribers at the end of June, Zhang Feng, an official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said today. (more…)
