Airtel Easy Recharge, launched as Wazobia Recharge in Nigeria, is a denomination-less recharge system which offers customers a unique opportunity to recharge their phones and those of their friends and family members with any value from Naira 50 without having to use the scratch cards.

Bharti Airtel international will Invest $100 Million In Malawi Bharti Airtel, who became the world’s fifth largest mobile player With recent acquisition of Zain Telecom’s African business is now planning to invest over US$ 100 Million in the Malawi telecommunication industry in the next three years. Company has also revealed that by this investment and business plan it targets to achieve 100 million subscribers and $5 billion revenue by 2012-13. Bharti Airtel now owns 100 percent of shares in Zain Malawi.

“We plan to invest $100 million in Malawi in the next three years to improve coverage and reach out to Malawi’s rural farmers  and help the country’s economy grow,” said Manoj Kohli, chief executive officer, Bharti Africa in in the Malawi’s capital Lilongwe

Kohli also revealed the company’s wish to improve local call rates to at least 250 minutes. Malawi currently hovers around 40 minutes of talk time for users. In India, he referenced, subscribers utilize between 400 and 500 minutes per month. (more…)

Bharti Airtel becomes worlds fifth no mobile services providerBharti Airtel, Leader in Indian Telecom market has announced it has successfully concluded a $10.7-billion deal to acquire the African assets of Kuwait’s Zain, making Bharti Airtel the world’s fifth largest mobile phone services company. The deal enables Bharti Airtel to extend its services in 15 countries across the African continent except Sudan and Morocco.

“Bharti is now among the five largest mobile operators in the world. This will further strengthen the historic Indo-Africa economic and social ties and provide a big boost to South-South cooperation,” said group chairman Sunil Mittal.

“I am pleased that we are starting with a bank. 42 million customers (which) is the customer base of Zain Africa. 3.6 billion dollars in revenue and just under 1.2 billion dollars in EBITDA is what Africa offers us at this starting point,” added Mittal.

Bharti now now has a total user base over 180 million in 18 countries. Prior to this deal, Bharti had operations in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
