BSNL to recruit 700 professionals in telecom sector

State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is looking to fill 700 positions at deputy general manager and higher grades to prevent a collapse the telecom company. The company lost more than 90% of its top managers last month. It is exploring ways to bring back telecom professionals from the Indian Telecom Service .
BSNL had recorded overwhelming losses of 6,384 crore for the year ended March 2011. Cash-strapped company had 1,300-plus ITS officers who were deputed to it nearly 11 years ago when the telco was brought as a separate corporate entity from the DoT. Last month, barring 13 officers, virtually the entire ITS cadre comprising executives in the ranks of DGM, GM, PGM and CGM opted to return to the telecom department, robbing BSNL of its middle and senior management. BSNL Unveils new Plan to Choose Your Mobile Number

BSNL launched ‘Choose Your Mobile Number ‘ plan across the country which would provide a new customer with vast range of over one lakh numbers to choose from.Under which prospective customers would be able to choose any number, sans any extra cost, from a list of about 100,000 numbers that will be made available on its website – www.ap.bsnl.co.in. BSNL’s choose your mobile number scheme, procedure is through online or through SMS will very soon be available across all the circles. So far, the service is available only in Andhra Pradesh circle where it was launched last month. With choose your mobile number scheme, customers can choose the numbers through BSNL website or SMS or from any retailer from the pool of numbers.
“After selecting the number of his choice, the customer will receive a PIN number on his mobile. The selected number will be reserved for 48 hours and will no longer be visible for further selection,” Rajeev Agarwal, chief general manager of BSNL-AP circle, told media persons here. Customers need to approach a customer service centre or a retailer with the PIN number, who will provide him with the same number. Customers can reserve a maximum of two numbers, and the list will be updated every day or even at a higher frequency, to ensure that additional numbers are added to make 100,000 numbers available every day with the customers to choose from. “Besides, it increases the loyalty of the customers to BSNL as the number is taken on his choice. We will set targets for the scheme after watching the initial response.
BSNL launches Paramilitary Plan and Officer Plan for Paramilitary Forces

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited ( BSNL ), has launched Special Tariff Plans for Paramilitary Forces serving the nation. The two plans launched are the Paramilitary Plan and the Officer Plan for the jawans & officers respectively. With these special tariff plans, BSNL endeavors to benefit over 9 lakh Paramilitary jawans.
Under the Paramilitary Plan jawans will get daily free talk time for 20 minutes on any two BSNL numbers anywhere in country. The facility is also free of cost while on roaming. Other than that the Paramilitary Plan offers Reduced Calling charges @ 0.20 P/ min on any two BSNL numbers; be it mobile or landline. Another plan in the offing is Reduced Calling charges @ 0.30 P/ min on any one BSNL number to talk with a relative, anywhere in the country. The Paramilitary Plan is available both on 2G and 3G along with reduced video calling charges @ 0.70 P/ min. (more…)
BSNL comes out as looser in Mobile Number Portability

BSNL, State owned telecom service provider is facing severe customers loss due to arrival of Mobile Number Portability. According to Sources, within the first 20 days of the launch of MNP, BSNL has lost more than 20,000 customers in the Punjab circle alone. However, around 3,000 subscribers have also joined its network during the same period making net customer loss to 17,000 . Poor infrastructure, lazy customer care, shoddy Voice quality and lack of Tempting VAS are major cause of this loss and now it would be a challenge for BSNL to overcome from it.
In Haryana, where MNP was launched on a trial basis on Nov 25, 2010, BSNL has lost over 33,000 connections. Vodafone and Tata DoCoMo have gained at the cost of the state-owned company, with the former adding almost 14,400 customers. (more…)
BSNL offering unlimited broadband usage on Christmas and New Year

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has launched a new offer providing unlimited broadband usage at just Rs. 499 per month in celebration Christmas and New Year.
BSNL Alappuzha general manager T. Natarajan said the new ‘Home 499′ plan would be apart from the ‘Home 625′ plan, which includes 100 free calls without monthly telephone rentals, both of which plans can be availed of without the Rs.250 modem installation charge till February 28. (more…)
