Bsnl introduces EVDO WiMax services in Mizoram

Sachin Pilot, The Union Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology , has launched EVDO technology based wireless broadband services in Mizoram at Aizawl and also announced the introduction of WiMax based broadband services in the state.

EVDO customers can have the roaming facility as well. Easy to use USB EVDO modems will give a comfortable Broadband experience. EVDO USB Modems are priced at Rs.2500 each. Customers have the option to take the USB EVDO modem on hire , instead of purchasing outright, at a monthly payment of Rs.200. Unlimited BB access through EVDO is offered at a fixed monthly charge of Rs.750/-. Prepaid BB access will also be available shortly. The prepaid account will be offered to the customer with an initial usage value worth Rs.399.00. Access charges over prepaid are 5 paisa per 100KB ( 7AM to 11PM) and 2.5 paisa per 100KB ( 11PM to 7AM).

[ad code=1] WiMAX sevice shall be available for Rs 220/- Monthly rental with 400 MB free, Rs 350/- Monthly rental with 1 GB free,Rs 750/- Monthly rental with 4 GB free, Beyond free limit, Rs 0.80/- per MB of downloading shall be charged. Home unlimited plan with 512 Kbps shall be available on monthly rental of Rs 999/-. The WiMAX CPEs shall be available on monthly rent of Rs. 50/- from BSNL.

According to Sachin, BSNL has provided mobile phones to 91,000 people in the state and another 45,000 will have access within a year. He added that the government will spend Rs 34 crore to improve communication services in the state. All villages in the state are to be covered with wireless communication by June 2011 and broadband services by the end of 2011.
