Aircel Mobile Service in Punjab plans to start 3G by Dec 2010AIRCEL, The 5th largest GSM operator of India has launched its Mobile Services in Punjab telecom circle. Aircel had invested Rs. 350 crores in punjab for raising 2,000 BTS sites and for setting up call-centers, The company plans to invest another Rs. 650 crores in the state to increase BTS upto 3,600 by December 2010. With this launch Aircel has now its GSM mobile services in 21 telecom circles and now punjab Telecom circle has eight GSM players including Airtel, Idea, Vodafone, BSNL, Reliance, Tata Docomo and Videocon. Aircel is also planning to commence its 3G services by end of December this year across all the 13
circles
Aircel prepaid card is now available at Rs.25 with life time validity. Customers have the choice to opt either Per sec. billing or per minute billing plan. To activate Pay Per second plan for local and STD calls Recharge with Rs.48 or Rs.123 and for Per minute Plan Recharge with Rs.49 and Rs.123 which will enable you tomake local calls as low as 40p/minute. To provide maximum benefit to customers tariff will remain same while roaming on Aircel network to Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

As Punjab has a large no of migratns in US / Canada, Aircel provides an attractive Inbuilt ISD pack in which ISD calls made to US & Canada will be charged at Rs. 1.6p/sec for first. 90 days. For Mobile internet users Aircel has introduced unlimited browsing @Rs 98 for 30 days, @Rs 14 for 3days respectively and a one day pack @Rs 5.

Mr. Gurdeep Singh, Chief Operating Officer, Aircel said, “We are introducing our products and services uniquely tailored to meet special needs of customers and our focus will be on “Internet through Mobile” users, Youths and small&medium enterprises ( SME’s ) in order to gain a significant share of mobile users in Punjab, Launch of 3G could be in two phases but we will attempt to launch 3G in all the circles by end of this year since
spectrum will be released in September itself.”

The highest Teledensity of 70 % in any telecom circle ( outside of metros ) is attracting several new telecom players towards Punjab.  With punjab having high peneteration ( 11 percent ) as compared to an all india peneteration of seven % the company is expecting to achieve its target of having A majority of the Internet on mobile users in their fold by the end of 2010
